Event Description:
A study of estimating construction materials, labor and costs, through reading drawings, calculating work quantities, and costing construction work. Emphasis is placed estimating from a general contractors and subcontractor perspective.
              
Student Learning Outcomes:
To create a learning situation whereby a student becomes one who can:
 
 
A. Perform manual quantity take-offs within accepted levels of accuracy for sample projects.
B. Perform quantity take-offs using a sample project on standardized forms to facilitate review.
C.Exercise judgment in estimating waste factors for materials, using standards on a sample project.
D.  Address ethical dilemmas and safety concerns within the construction estimating process.
E. Create parametric and analogous estimates to use as order-of-magnitude project assessments.
F.  Develop project bid packages utilizing on-screen take-off software and the cost databases to do the following.
G. Identify labor, material, and equipment and estimate costs for project packages.
H. Organize a project into work packages from electronic plans and specifications.
I. Analyze subcontract and material supplier quotes for work packages.
J. Exercise ethical judgment in bid compilation and assessment.
K. Identify safety concerns that affect project bids.
